The entire tour will be conducted under the helpful eye of our experienced photoguides, who are both experts in landscape photography and shooting in Iceland’s diverse and splendid lighting conditions. Having travelled extensively in the Icelandic Highlands, they will be on hand to ensure your safety and to help you develop your skills throughout the workshop.

There will be no need to burden yourself, as every participant will be provided with their own Expedition tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag for use throughout the trip. Delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner will be cooked and served for you in a big kitchen tent with a BBQ grill, though we will also dine in some huts in the Highlands. Don’t fret about thirst, as we will ensure that clean drinking water is provided.

The Highlands are mostly rugged and uninhabitable, covering a large part of the interior of Iceland. The area that we will explore was carved over a long period of time by volcanic activity and can only be crossed during the Icelandic summer. It is a raw and powerful place, where deserts of black sand, steaming hot springs and barren glacial moraine are interspersed with lush fields of vegetation like a paradise.

All food is included in the price of this tour. We will be eating delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which will be cooked and served for you in a big kitchen tent with a BBQ grill. There are times though where we will dine in huts in the Highlands. Drinking water will also be available

As mentioned, this tour does not have a set itinerary; because of the ever-changing light and weather in Iceland, you will head to wherever the best conditions for photography are. In spite of this, there are many places you are more than likely to get to.

One almost guaranteed is Þórsmörk Nature Reserve, due to the fact that the mountains and glaciers that enclose it provide it with a relatively stable climate. The landscapes in this forested valley are so grand and beautiful that they seem otherworldly; this was noted by early settlers, who named it after the Norse God of Thunder, Þór (or Thor). Þórsmörk is well-renowned for its landscapes, being at one end of the most popular trekking route in the country, the Laugavegur Trail.

On the other end of this trail is Landmannalaugar, another region you are more than likely to have plenty of shooting opportunities at. This highland site is beloved for its bubbling geothermal pools, steaming rivers, and brightly coloured rhyolite mountains, and is a paradise for hikers and photographers alike.

On the topic of geothermal areas, the hot-spring-region of Hveravellir is also on the agenda. Located between the mighty glaciers of Hofsjökull and Langjökull, deep in Iceland’s interior, it is a hot-spot of bubbling pools, steaming cinders, and hills brightly dyed by the elements rising from the center of the earth.

Another geothermal region can be found at Kerlingarfjöll; in fact, it is the third largest area of its kind in the country. While this provides spectacular opportunities for photography you can only find in Iceland, the subterranean forces are not the only appeal of the site; it is also surrounded by dramatic, colourful, rhyolite mountains, which boast incredible views of the barren, desert-like regions of the Highlands.

While Hveravellir and Kerlingarfjöll are deep within the Iceland's interior, you will also explore verdant areas on its cusp. Þakgil is one such location, a beautiful and dramatic valley of shimmering green vistas and trickling waterfalls. This is one of the country’s favourite camping destinations.

If conditions allow, you will also see South Fjallabak, where all of the above features can be found together, along with a few new ones; forests, valleys, waterfalls, hot-spring areas, volcanoes, glaciers, meadows and iceberg-filled lagoons can all be photographed here.

You will get through as many diverse sites as possible over the course of the nine days; while ticking off these locations is the primary objective, they are but few places where you will immerse yourself in spectacular nature and build your portfolio. If any of them are not reached, no doubt the destinations you replace them with will be just as incredible.
